The Interview Badge: What It Is and How to Get It
Updated 3 November 2026 · Land & Property editorial team
The interview badge is an extra, paid badge on a verified agent's Land & Property profile. It is given only after the standard National ID and live selfie verification, and after a short office or phone interview with our team. The badge shows for that month. It tells buyers the agent was interviewed. It is not a licence and not a guarantee of any deal.
- Who can apply
- Agents who already hold the standard Verified badge

What is the interview badge?
Land & Property verifies agents in layers. The base layer is the Verified badge: a National ID (NIN) check plus a live selfie, so the person behind the profile matches the ID. A second layer is a title check, a paid search at the land registry that is required above a value threshold. The interview badge sits on top of both. It is a paid extra badge, and it is given only after standard verification is complete.
The idea is simple. An ID check proves who someone is. An interview lets us speak to them and form a view of how they work. The badge then appears on the agent's profile for that month, so buyers can see that this agent chose to be interviewed. For the full ladder of checks, read property agent verification process.
| Layer | What it proves | Paid? |
|---|---|---|
| Verified (ID and selfie) | The agent is the person on the National ID | See the verified agent plans page |
| Title-checked listing | A registry search was done for that listing | Paid service, required above a value threshold |
| Interview badge | The agent was interviewed in person or by phone | Paid, monthly |
Who is eligible?
You must first be a verified agent. If you are not, start with apply to become a verified agent. We do not interview anyone whose identity check is still pending, because the interview is meant to add to a verified base, not replace it.
Eligibility is about being genuine, not being big. A sole agent with a handful of honest listings can qualify. Agents who work for a company or team should also see registering an agency or team.
What do we cover in the interview?
The interview is a conversation, not an exam. It is held at our office or by phone. It is planned to cover the following topics. Agents should prepare short, honest answers.
- Your work: which areas and property types you handle, and a few recent listings you can talk about.
- Your documents: that the name and details on your profile match your National ID, and the business registration if you trade as a firm.
- How you get mandates: whether you obtain written authority from owners, and how you show it to buyers.
- How you handle money: that you do not ask buyers for fees to personal numbers before an inspection, and where deposits go.
- How you treat buyers: your viewing process, and how you deal with complaints.
- Our standards: that you understand the verified agent terms and how disputes and complaints are handled (see our Commission Disputes guide).
We do not ask about unrelated personal matters. The badge is not automatic. It is given after the interview, at our discretion, and it shows only that the agent was interviewed by our team.
How long does the badge last?
It is a monthly badge. It shows on the agent's profile for the month in which it was given. To show it again in a later month, the agent takes it again under the plan terms that apply then. Because it is monthly, a buyer who sees it knows it is current, not left over from years ago. How it fits with subscriptions is on Verified Agent Plans and Pricing.
What does it cost?
It is a paid badge. We keep the amount only on our pricing page, so that there is one current figure and no old numbers floating on other pages. Check pricing for the price as it stands today, and see the plans page for how it sits beside the other features. Agents list free at launch; paid listing and plans are planned for later.
What should buyers understand the badge to mean?
Buyers should read it as one extra signal, not a guarantee. It means that the agent had standard verification, then took part in an interview with us in that month. It does not mean the agent holds a government licence. As of November 2026 we found no enacted national law that licenses estate agents; the Real Estate Bill is proposed and was described as being fast-tracked in September 2026 (Daily Monitor). See the licence page for details.
Even with every badge, buyers should do their own checks: original ID, the owner's written mandate, an official title search, and no payment to a personal number before inspection, as press reports of inspection-fee scams advise (meeting at the property before sending money) (Nymynet). Our Verified Agents Directory lets buyers see each agent's badges. Agents in Kenya can read Become a Verified Property Agent for the equivalent route.

Frequently asked questions
What is the interview badge?
It is a paid extra badge on a verified agent's profile. It is given after standard National ID and live selfie verification and after an office or phone interview with Land & Property. It shows buyers the agent was interviewed. It is not a government licence.
How long does it last?
The badge shows on the agent's profile for that month. It is a monthly badge, so a buyer who sees it knows it is current. See the verified agent plans page to understand how it fits with a subscription.
Can I get the badge without being verified first?
No. Standard verification with a National ID check and a live selfie comes first. The interview is an extra layer on top of that, and we do not interview agents whose identity check is still pending.
How much does the interview badge cost?
It is a paid badge, and the current price is shown only on our pricing page so there is a single up-to-date figure. Agents list free at launch, and paid plans are planned for later.
